Many colleges hold extensive Open Houses, including tours and opportunities to meet students. for prospective applicants.

If there’s one at a campus near you, GO THERE! Even if it’s not one of your target colleges, you’ll get smarter.

You 'll get a sense of what campus life is like at one more college and, usually, a clearer focus on what you like and don’t like.  Sophomores and Juniors:  You should go, too. You’ll get a clearer sense of what people mean when they talk about dining halls, double occupancy or a big lecture hall.

You’ll meet admissions officers, which is never a bad idea; and you’ll see that kind of school at its best. At most schools, you can eat in the dining hall; take in a home game, a field hockey match or a lecture by one of the school’s professors geared to high school students and their families.
